Hi Jill!
Great question. There is not necessarily a trick, but it can get confusing on certain procedures that don't have a direct crosscode from dental coding to medical - and this is one of those services! When there is a not a code that accurately describes the services that was provided available, you end up using an "unlisted" or "by report" or "miscellaneous" CPT code, and providing a description of the service that the code is being used to represent.
D4321 - provisional splinting - extracoronal
The code listed above does not have a direct crosscode we are aware of, so you can either bill the "D" code on the medical claim (many insurers these days will process "D" codes when they are medically necessary services), or you can use the CPT code below and include a narrative report describing the procedure: 41899 - Unlisted procedure, dentoalveolar structures
Hope this helps!

Hello!
I imagine this has been asked already but I can't seem to utilize the search option. Thank you for this resource!
I am looking for medical code for D4321. I actually bought a CPT code but have not been at all successful in finding dental treatment/conversion codes.. is there a trick to this madness? :)
Thank you! Jill
