I am hoping you can help me. I am submitting a claim for dental treatment to a patient car insurance and they are looking for medical coding. The patient was driving her SUV on the highway and was hit from behind during heavy traffic and then hit into the car in front of her. She requires a Crown (D2750) & x-rays as a result of the accident. Any help for the coding of that? I know its pretty particular

Hi Christy!
No problem I'm happy to help :)
So first off, for the diagnosis coding. You'll want a code to represent the trauma to the teeth, and a code to represent the accident.
For example, some diagnosis coding options for the trauma to the teeth are: K03.81 - Cracked tooth S02.5XXA - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for closed fracture S02.5XXB - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for open fracture K08.411 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, class I K08.412 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, class II K08.413 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, class III K08.414 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, class IV K08.419 - Partial loss of teeth due to trauma, unspecified class
Now, for the accident, here are some coding options for you based on what you described: V53.5XXA - Driver of pick-up truck or van injured in collision with car, pick-up truck or van in traffic accident, initial encounter V53.5XXD - Driver of pick-up truck or van injured in collision with car, pick-up truck or van in traffic accident, subsequent encounter
As for the crown: D2750 - crown - porcelain fused to high noble metal
The code listed above does not have a direct crosscode we are aware of, so you can either bill the "D" code on the medical claim (many insurers these days will process "D" codes when they are medically necessary services), or you can try the CPT code below and include a narrative report describing the procedure: 41899 - Unlisted procedure, dentoalveolar structures
As for the x-rays:
It depends on what all x-rays you took, but here are some x-ray CPT coding options: 70355 - Orthopantogram (eg, panoramic x-ray) 70350 - Cephalogram, orthodontic 70250 - x-ray lateral skull 70486 - Computed tomography, maxillofacial area; without contrast material.
Hope this helps!

Do you have any medical codes for ADULT ORTHODONTICS because the patient had a car accident, had jaw surgery, and now teeth don't meet and needs orthodontics.
