Hello,
I am in need of the correct ICD10 for loss of tooth due to severe bone loss. Also, what is the ICD10 I would use for the implant placement in this site?

Thank you.

Hi Guest!

Here are some ICD-10 coding options for you for loss of tooth due to severe bone loss:

K08.26 - Severe atrophy of the maxilla
K08.23 - Severe atrophy of the mandible

Partial loss of teeth, due to other specified cause:
K08.491 - Partial loss of teeth due to other specified cause, class I
K08.492 - Partial loss of teeth due to other specified cause, class II
K08.493 - Partial loss of teeth due to other specified cause, class III
K08.494 - Partial loss of teeth due to other specified cause, class IV
K08.499 - Partial loss of teeth due to other specified cause, unspecified

As far as an ICD-10 code for implant placement - do you mean the procedure code (CPT) code for the service? If so, here are some coding options for you:

21248 - Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); partial (3 or less)
21249 - Reconstruction of mandible or maxilla, endosteal implant (eg, blade, cylinder); complete (4 or more)

There is not an ICD-10 code for placing an implant I am aware of, the ICD codes above will tell the insurer why the implant is being placed.

Hope this helps!
