Hello -
I do medical billing for Oral Maxillofacial surgeons. One of the surgeons has the understanding that code 70150 can be used for a CBCT. I have the understanding that code 70486 is to be used. Can you help clarify if code 70150 can be used for a complete (both mandible & maxilla) CBCT?

Hi Guest! Great question - it will depend on the field of view for the xray. Here are the full descriptions of those two codes: 70150 - Radiologic examination, facial bones; complete, minimum of 3 views 70486 - Computed tomography, maxillofacial area; without contrast material United Healthcare states to use 70486 for CBCT in their radiology medical policy, here is a link to that policy (see page 89): https://www.uhcprovider.com/content/dam/provider/docs/public/policies/clinical-guidelines/cardiology-radiology-imaging-guidelines.pdfHope this helps!
