What is the ICD-10 code for procedure D4273? The D4273 is being done due to medications the patient has taken for a medical condition.

What is the diagnosis code for this as well? Thank you!!

Hi Guest!

D4273 - autogenous connective tissue graft procedure (including donor and recipient surgical sites) first tooth, implant, or edentulous tooth position in graft
can be crosscoded to:
41870 - periodontal mucosal graft

As for the diagnosis code(s) it depends on the patient's condition! Basically, why is the patient receiving the services?

For example, if it is due to periodontitis and/or caries, some coding options are:

• K05.211 - Aggressive periodontitis, localized, slight
• K05.212 - Aggressive periodontitis, localized, moderate
• K05.213 - Aggressive periodontitis, localized, severe
• K05.219 - Aggressive periodontitis, localized, unspecified severity
• K05.221 - Aggressive periodontitis, generalized, slight
• K05.222 - Aggressive periodontitis, generalized, moderate
• K05.223 - Aggressive periodontitis, generalized, severe
• K05.229 - Aggressive periodontitis, generalized, unspecified severity
• K05.311 - Chronic periodontitis, localized, slight
• K05.312 - Chronic periodontitis, localized, moderate
• K05.313 - Chronic periodontitis, localized, severe
• K05.319 - Chronic periodontitis, localized, unspecified severity
• K05.321 - Chronic periodontitis, generalized, slight
• K05.322 - Chronic periodontitis, generalized, moderate
• K05.323 - Chronic periodontitis, generalized, severe
• K05.329 - Chronic periodontitis, generalized, unspecified severity
• K05.10 - Chronic gingivitis, plaque induced
• K05.11 - Chronic gingivitis, non-plaque induced
• K02.3 - Arrested dental caries
• K02.51 - Dental caries on pit and fissure surface limited to enamel
• K02.52 - Dental caries on pit and fissure surface penetrating into dentin
• K02.53 - Dental caries on pit and fissure surface penetrating into pulp
• K02.61 - Dental caries on smooth surface limited to enamel
• K02.62 - Dental caries on smooth surface penetrating into dentin
• K02.63 - Dental caries on smooth surface penetrating into pulp
• K02.7 - Dental root caries
• K02.9 - Dental caries, unspecified

As for indicating it is due to a medication, here are some coding options:

T50.905A - Adverse effect of unspecified drugs, medicaments and biological substances, initial encounter
T88.7XXA - Unspecified adverse effect of drug or medicament, initial encounter
T88.8XXA - Other specified complications of surgical and medical care, not elsewhere classified, initial encounter

If the above options don't fit the bill for your patient, let me know some additional detail and I am happy to offer some coding options.

Hope this helps!

Subepithelial connective tissue graft procedures, per tooth D4273
• A minimum amount of attached gingival remains, i.e., < 2mm.
• Procedure is required for reasons other than cosmetics, i.e., mucogingival defect, root
sensitivity treated unsuccessfully by desensitizing techniques or placement of
restoration, to increase the band of keratinized/attached gingival, and/or to thicken the
gingival housing at a prospective implant site.
• Procedure includes both recipient bed preparation and obtaining donor tissue, including
use of allograft material such as Alloderm.
