Hello,
One of our patients fell while walking her dog and fractured crowns on #8 & #9. The crown on #8 was completely fractured off except for minor remnant in mesial. There was fracture to porcelain on #9 and it was dislodged from the crown margin. Both teeth need new crowns.
When reporting the ICD 10 codes for this would you recommend we use S02.5XXA - Fracture of tooth (traumatic), initial encounter for closed fracture OR K08.539 - Fractured dental restorative material, unspecified?
Will also report W01.198A - Fall on same level from slipping, tripping and stumbling with subsequent striking against other object, initial encounter along with Y93.K1 - Activity, walking an animal.
Thanks for your help!

Hi Eastland Dental Center!
Based on the situation you describe below, it sounds like K08.539 - Fractured dental restorative material, unspecified, is the most accurate diagnosis code of those two you mentioned.
Here are some additional ICD-10 coding options to consider that are more specific:
K08.530 - Fractured dental restorative material without loss of material K08.531 - Fractured dental restorative material with loss of material
Your fall and activity code look great!
Hope this helps, have a great day
